Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity

M&S and Great Ormond Street Hospital Partnership

Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the world's leading children's research hospitals with the broadest range of dedicated, children's healthcare specialists under one roof in the UK. The hospital's pioneering research and treatment gives hope to children who are suffering from the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions, from across the country and abroad.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity is hugely proud to be working with Marks and Spencer who are generously donating £500,000 towards vital research to help children with nutrition and allergy related conditions.

The Gastroenterology department at Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the UK's leading centre's of excellence in treating complex diseases affecting the gut and other associated organs (such as the pancreas). The team sees over 5,000 children with chronic and life-limiting gut conditions each year.

Over the last year, a world class team of clinicians and researchers have been brought together to develop and deliver three pioneering studies which will look at a range of areas within the field of pediatric gastrointestinal allergies; from diagnosis and treatment, to the economic and social impact and support currently available to families.

Some of the anticipated impacts of these studies include:

  • Creation of the UK's leading clinical academic research facility for advancement of the study and treatment of childhood gut disorders.
  • New pioneering cures for children with nerve and muscle disorders of the gut.
  • Improved diagnosis and treatment of children with food allergies leading to better long term prognoses.
  • Improved quality of life and reduced burden of disease for families of children with gut diseases.
  • Better information in the public domain and in the hands of healthcare professionals across the UK and beyond.

Not only will this work benefit the patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital but children and families living with nutrition and allergy related conditions across the country.
